Findings in context
Sources, limitations and differences between 500 and 500 PRO clearly explained.
External tests and media reports do not replace individual system planning. We summarise their findings and link to the original sources.
Everyday energy flow
See how generation, storage, consumption and backup power work together. Actual functionality depends on the product line and system design.
The app and Smart Meter show how much energy your household needs and where it comes from.
500 and 500 PRO use directly connected solar panels. AC CORE adds AC-coupled storage to existing PV systems and supports grid charging. Direct PV connection on AC CORE is only possible after activating the separately available, paid MPPT software upgrade.
Stored energy is available for the household or selected loads connected to the backup output.
Set charging targets and reserves to suit your consumption, electricity tariff and desired backup reserve.
Applications
Choose your application and see how the product line, capacity and power reserve work together.
SunEnergyXT 500 combines direct PV connection with 5 kWh storage, up to 800 W grid feed-in and up to 2,400 W at the backup output.
Plan storage, energy metering and the product line to suit your existing PV system, consumption and desired power reserve.
Up to 2,400 W grid feed-in and up to 2,400 W backup output per main unit. Multiple main units require suitable technical planning and approval.
Add compatible B500 batteries to suit your energy needs. Additional batteries increase capacity, but do not automatically increase output power.
Consider the vehicle, wallbox, charging power, grid connection and electrical installation from the start. The 500 series provides the storage component, not the complete charging infrastructure.
Plan your backup reserve for the fridge, router, lighting and other essential loads. Output power and runtime depend on the model, capacity and load profile.
Three product lines · one system family
Choose the product line according to your energy source and required grid feed-in power. B500 adds storage capacity to compatible systems.
SunEnergyXT 500 · Starter system
SunEnergyXT 500 combines direct PV connection, 5 kWh base capacity, up to 800 W grid feed-in and up to 2,400 W backup output as a starting point for your system.
SunEnergyXT 500 PRO · 2,400 W grid feed-in
500 PRO offers 2,400 W grid feed-in and 2,400 W backup output with direct PV connection. The required capacity and electrical planning depend on your load profile.
500 PRO AC CORE
500 PRO AC CORE adds AC-coupled retrofit storage to an existing PV system. A compatible Smart Meter measures surplus and consumption; each main unit provides 5 kWh nominal capacity (4.8 kWh usable), 2,400 W grid-connected AC power and 2,400 W backup power. A qualified installer must plan the installation and electrical protection to suit the system.
B500 · Modular expansion
B500 adds another 5 kWh nominal capacity to a compatible 500, 500 PRO or 500 PRO AC CORE system. More capacity does not automatically increase output power.
Retrofit storage for existing PV systems
500 PRO AC CORE adds AC-coupled storage to your existing photovoltaic system. A working inverter can generally remain part of the system. If exported surplus receives little or no payment, you can store that energy for your own later use. Capacity and system architecture can be expanded modularly as your needs grow.

Retrofit instead of replacing
500 PRO AC CORE adds storage on the AC side of your existing system. A working inverter does not need to be replaced as a precaution; compatibility is checked for your specific system.
Put surplus energy to use
If export payments are low or unavailable, store your solar surplus for later use rather than sending it to the grid without making full use of its value.
Smart Meter
A compatible Smart Meter detects generation and consumption, providing the readings needed to charge the battery with solar surplus via the AC connection.
Expand modularly
B500 increases storage capacity. Additional main units increase available system power and require technical planning to suit your needs.
Options for future expansion
Start with an AC-coupled retrofit and expand the capacity and system architecture later. Direct PV connection on AC CORE requires the separately available, paid MPPT software upgrade and a suitable technical design.
500 PRO AC CORE
From professional integration to automatic use of your solar surplus.
Step 1
The AC connection is planned and checked to suit your existing system.
Step 2
Connect your system to the app and configure the basic energy settings.
Step 3
The manufacturer currently lists Shelly 3EM, Shelly Pro 3EM, Shelly EM-50, EcoTracker IR, EcoTracker P1 and bitShake as compatible metering solutions.
Step 4
The compatible Smart Meter measures generation and consumption. AC CORE uses these readings to store available solar surplus for later use.
A qualified installer must check the AC connection, Smart Meter, grid connection and electrical protection for the existing system.

Find the right model
Choose whether to add AC-coupled storage to an existing PV system or connect a new PV system directly. Your consumption and power requirements then refine the recommendation.
Keeping existing PV and adding AC-coupled storage leads to 500 PRO AC CORE. The Smart Meter, grid connection and electrical protection are checked for the system.
New direct PV connection: up to 800 W grid feed-in leads to 500; 801–2,400 W leads to 500 PRO. Both offer up to 2,400 W backup power.
B500 increases storage capacity. Additional main units increase available power; electric cars and heat pumps are planned separately.
For this application, we also recommend reviewing the relevant solution or discussing your requirements with us.
Use the AC-coupled retrofit storage system for existing PV systems, scheduled grid charging and backup power. Each main unit provides 5 kWh nominal capacity, 2,400 W AC power and 2,400 W backup power; a qualified installer must check installation and electrical protection.
For a starter solar system with direct PV connection, up to 800 W grid feed-in and 2,400 W backup power.
For higher household loads with 2,400 W grid feed-in and 2,400 W backup output.
For more capacity in a compatible 500 system.
Capacity guidance uses 5 kWh steps up to a maximum of 30 kWh per storage tower. For AC-coupled retrofits of existing PV systems, the recommendation is AC CORE. For a new direct PV connection, it depends on the desired grid feed-in power: up to 800 W leads to 500, and higher power to 500 PRO. The result does not replace electrical planning.
Use the guidance from the series finder or adjust capacity and power reserve yourself. The diagram arranges main units and B500 batteries into suitable storage towers.
We prioritise a compact, economical configuration with as few main units as possible.
Recommended configuration
Our recommendation
For small to medium capacities, we initially prioritise a simple configuration. If you need more power later, you can expand to two or three main units.
Multiple main units
Additional B500 batteries increase storage capacity. With technically approved system linking, further main units can also provide additional MPPT channels and power reserves.
Three main units approved for this setup provide up to twelve MPPT channels with a combined PV input power of up to 7,500 W. System output power is up to 7,200 W, depending on the approved configuration. Panel allocation, electrical limits and system linking require technical planning.
Available total power depends on the approved device combination, grid connection, electrical protection and electrical planning.
Multiple main units provide additional power and backup reserves for larger loads and more demanding energy systems.
Parallel operation, total power and connection type depend on approved control systems, firmware, the grid connection and technical planning.

System architecture
Expansion batteries primarily increase energy storage. With approved linking, additional main units can also increase power, the number of MPPT channels and system flexibility.
Depending on the approved system configuration, additional main units can increase power from 2.4 kW to up to 7.2 kW.
Each main unit adds four MPPT channels, providing more options for different orientations, partial shading and additional panel areas.
Plan main units according to the required power and add compatible B500 batteries to meet your capacity needs.
Total power and connection type must be planned to match the grid connection, firmware, controls and system approval.
More storage capacity provides reserves for evenings, nights, backup power and later expansion. The right size depends on your consumption and energy source.
With 5 kWh nominal capacity, more energy is available outside daylight hours. According to the technical data sheet, the EVE LFP cells achieve more than 10,000 charge cycles under the test conditions specified there.
Selected loads can be supplied through the separate backup output. Runtime depends on available capacity, state of charge and the connected load.
Depending on the product line, tariff and system configuration, the battery can be charged from the grid at selected times. Whether this is economical depends on your tariff, consumption and charging pattern.
MPPT controllers, inverter, battery, Smart Meter and backup output each perform different tasks. Equipment varies by product line.
SunEnergyXT 500 and 500 PRO have four independent MPPT channels, each supporting up to 625 W. Voltage, current, wiring and panel selection must remain within the technical limits. On AC CORE, direct PV connection is only possible with the separately available, paid MPPT software upgrade.
The bidirectional inverter converts stored energy into 230 V AC and, depending on the product line and configuration, supports charging from the household electrical system. Grid feed-in is up to 800 W for 500 and up to 2,400 W for 500 PRO and 500 PRO AC CORE.
According to the technical data sheet, the EVE LFP cells have 314 Ah and 5,024 Wh nominal energy. How long the stored energy lasts depends on the state of charge and consumption.
